Nearly everyone has an old mobile phone that they are not using anymore which is just gathering dust in a drawer or on a shelf. In a lot of cases this device will still be in working order, or at least easily fixable. To be honest it is a bit of a pity to leave these devices around where nobody can benefit from them. Well you may not be aware that it is possible to recycle old phones and it is even possible to make money doing this. Sounds interesting doesn’t it?
There are a number of ways that you can convert an old mobile phone into cash as there are various services that will help you to do this. You might not get much money from some of these buyers, but something is better than nothing you also get to feel good about doing your bit for sustainable living. Your old mobile phone will either be passed onto another person to use or it will be broken down and re-used. The one thing that you will be sure of is that your old mobile phone is still getting used somewhere.
Having a mobile phone and never using it is of no benefit to anyone. Most of us will be able to put the money we make from such devices to good use; maybe even put it towards buying a brand new phone. Some of the more reputable phone recycling companies will ensure that less fortunate people will benefit from your phone. You probably heard the old saying that one persons’ rubbish is another person’s gold well this is certainly true when it comes to mobile phones. The fact that your old mobile phone might not be at the height of fashion might not be a problem for a number of people.

Nokia’s new addition to their smartphone range is the N8. With a large number of different features and technologies it is sure to be a close competitor to the popular iPhone. What makes the Nokia N8 doubly special is the use of Nokia’s new Symbian ^3 operating system. At the forefront of the huge list of features offered by the N8 is a twelve megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and full 720p HDMI support for the recording and playback of home made videos. After recording and editing your movies via the handset’s on board software editing suite, you will be able to playback your movies in the comfort of your home by using a non-standard cable connected to your television, but what makes it more special is the ability to output Dolby surround sound through the HDMI cable also. The 3.5″ liquid crystal touch screen display of the Nokia N8 will hold a resolution of 640 x 360 and contain up to 16.7 million colors. There are also a number of sensors incorporated into the design which should makes things much more interesting, such as an accelerometer, a digital compass, an ambient light detector and a proximity sensor. The new Nokia N8 is certainly able to compete directly with the likes of the iPhone and Blackberry, with it’s mass of downloadable content from the Ovi Store in the form of widgets and applications, most notably in the shape of Web TV. Using Web TV the user can view movies available from providers such as National Geographic, E! Entertainment, CNN and Paramount. To summarize, the Nokia N8 promises to deliver the customer a very convincing rival of either the popular iPhone or Blackberry, containing features that bring it right to the forefront of modern mobile phone technology. Once it is released, there will be nothing to stop it helping Nokia maintain their status as the biggest mobile phone manufacturer on the planet.
Everywhere you look there are iphones being played with in people’s hands. There are so many of the things around and you’ll find that everyone using phone seems to have a perpetual grin on their face and an air of superiority. Their look may be warranted however as the iphone is so adaptable and flexible they could be doing all manner of tasks. Updating their Facebook account, looking for directions to the nearest bar, or just playing one of the thousands of games available to the iphone. With so much flexibility and innovation in the iphone, it was only so long before companies started issuing them to their staff as work tools. But what makes these iphones so good for modern businesses?
Geo Location. One of the iphones most impressive features is the integration of Google Maps. Other phones and navigation toys use this feature, but not as well as the iphone. You can find directions to a meeting or plan a tour with some journalists for example with a couple of touches of the screen. On top of this, and as long as every agrees, you can track the location of everyone in a group on a worldwide map. This means the device is ideal for companies like haulage or event management firms who need to know where everyone is at any one time. A very new development in mobile technology is ‘augmented reality’. The iphone was one of the first to have an application that allowed users to engage in this technology, with allows people to place virtual tags on a 3D map, that other people can read when they are in the same location. This opens up many doors for companies, including being able to scout out the best places for a new store, to leaving a virtual breadcrumb for customers to their existing store for example. Some companies are even using this for team building events, using geo-tags at various locations instead of orienteering checkpoints. The possibilities are endless.
Non-shared Apps. It seems the whole world and his dog have created their own apps to share on the app store by now. Not all iphones applications however need to be shared with the world, you might want some that only your colleges can use. One possible internal app might be something as simple as a messaging platform where people can quickly pick up and drop internal notes or memos…this can be done. There are even apps for alerting you when your colleges have free time in their schedule, which of course not everyone wants you to know.
Internet Browsing. If you thought the use of Google Maps was easy, you should see how good the Internet browsing is. This allows people to send and pick up emails much faster and when you just want to browse the net for info, this is much faster also. Also, with the increasing prominence of social media in many companies overall marketing strategy, staff are able to keep up to date with what is being said about the company on sites such as Twitter and Facebook. One thing is for sure though, will all these new iphones around, business insurance premiums are certain to rise.
BT has recently announced that they are cutting the light out of a lot of their phone boxes across the rural parts of the country. So my question is, how on earth are you supposed to ring someone in an emergency if it is in the middle of the night?
Emergency
BT are refusing to replace many of the bulbs because they are saying that a lot of the boxes are simply not used enough but the people that live around the area are really annoyed because if they have to go out and make a call they are having to take a torch with them or dial in darkness.
This is certainly something that could really cause problems when there is a bad emergency. It is going to be almost impossible to look for a torch if someone was in danger or your house was on fire, it just gets sill. It is already a panic when there is a rush to the phone and BT are potentially putting peoples lives at risk by doing something like this.
The counter argument
Bt have been arguing that a lot of people are now using things like mobile phones however in rural areas the coverage is still not that great so congratulations there BT.
The stupid thing is that it only costs BT £9 a year to run a bulb on one of these phone boxes which works at around 3p a day which is a lot less than it costs for a minute of talk to one of their lousy team members!
However there are of course many other ways you can call someone or get in contact with them such as using services like fax to email, 0871 numbers and of course if there are no lights you may need some mobile phone insurance.
